THC and CBD are both ingredients of Cannabis. They are different from each other in some sense, despite having few similarities. Let's learn more about them so we can have a better grasp of what they are and what benefits we can gain from them.

Starting with THC, it stands for delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol. It is a primary ingredient and a cannabinoid molecule found in marijuana (cannabis). THC is known to be a psychoactive ingredient, which when consumed makes people feel high. In early times, the THC content of marijuana was just 4% but now it contains an average of 9.6%. Even some new strains of marijuana like skunk contains up to about 15% THC making it quite strong. But the amount of THC present in marijuana also depends on the method of its preparation. Even some product contains more than 50% THC. These products are made from marijuana extracts.

It is consumed in a variety of ways, the most common being smoked. The dried leaves of marijuana (cannabis plant) are lit and smoked. Besides, there are available other ways too for its consumption.

  • Inhale it
  • Apply it topically
  • Take it orally

Coming to CBD, it stands for cannabidiol. It is the second prevalent ingredient found in cannabis. The main source of deriving CBD is the hemp plant. The main thing to know about CBD is that it doesn’t exhibit any kind of abuse to the consumer. It doesn’t make people feel high. According to studies conducted, still, no pure evidence of health issues on the use of pure CBD is encountered.

The molecular structure of both the compounds is the same, possessing 21 carbon atoms, 30 hydrogen atoms, and 2 oxygen atoms. The only difference comes from the way of their arrangement. They both interact with cannabinoid receptors of the body to provide their function. Looking into the nature of their binding with the receptors, we can say that THC binds well with CBD 1 receptor whereas CBD helps to reduce the psychoactive effects of THC to some extent.

Now, with this knowledge in hand, let us look a little deep into it.
